The scope of this project was to update a deteriorating 1960’s boathouse to a combination guesthouse/boathouse. The finished building has 750 square feet of living space and a total of 1,500 square feet including space for boat storage. Demolition of the original structure was not an option, since local regulations prohibited the building of new structures on this lake. In addition, regulations required that the original foundation, which was deteriorated…and under water, must remain. The solution was to build a coffer dam and pump the water away from the foundation. Then a new foundation wall was poured on both the inside and outside of the original one. The resulting project is a charming, funky, self-sufficient getaway with a gorgeous view of the lake.
